Official County Board Meetings

In seven counties, voters passed ordinances requiring the County Court or Board of Commissioners to meet regularly. It’s up to the commissioners to choose a time and place. Sometimes you’ll find information about the meeting on the county website. Some allow you to teleconference.

Most will allow a public comment time when attendees can try to convince the commissioners and anyone listening (sometimes journalists) why they should join the movement to move the Oregon/Idaho border, so please attend if you can.   Please ask the county commissioners in eastern Oregon to get the Eastern Oregon Counties Association to issue a press release in support of moving the border.

Oregon state Senator Lynn Findley was quoted in the Blue Mountain Eagle (and his email to us) that he would be willing to work toward moving the Oregon/Idaho border to include eastern and southern Oregon if he receives letters in support from county commissioners and county court members whose counties are in his district boundaries. Also, state Rep. Owens wrote “I look forward to seeing what direction that the counties and the voters will provide to Senator Findley and I to move forward on.”  So ask your county commissioners to write to their state legislators.

Greater Idaho Central Oregon Chapter Meeting

February (TBD), from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, Prineville.

All are welcome to attend. We will discuss how we can advance the movement locally, such as asking the officials in Wheeler County, Gilliam County, and Maupin to put Greater Idaho on the ballot, and inviting local state legislators to speak with us. We are making reports on the pros and cons of moving the Oregon/Idaho border, so input and experts in particular areas such as taxes, ranching, water masters, farm deferral, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

JEFFERSON COUNTY Commissioners’ meeting on Greater Idaho

February 16 (Wednesday)

We’re looking for people to show up in person or on Zoom to speak up on behalf of the idea of moving the Oregon/Idaho border.

Our goal for this meeting is to convince the Commissioners and onlookers (and any press that might be there) that moving the border would be good for Jefferson County. We also want to ask the County Commissioners to get the Eastern Oregon Counties Association to issue a press release in support of moving the border. Also let them know that we did reach out to the Warm Springs tribal council, but didn’t hear back.

You can learn how to attend the meeting at the County’s website: www.jeffco.net/administration/page/board-commissioners-special-meeting-11

Deadline for submitting signatures for a May Election

Feb 16 (but you need to get them to us days ahead of time so we can count, collate, and submit them to the county clerk by then).

We don’t lose any signatures if we fail to meet this date. If we miss the February date in a county, we can keep gathering signatures at least a couple more weeks for the November 2022 Election.  The final deadline is March, April, or June 2022, depending on the county.
